Well I'm a voice teacher and I am serious when I say things such as this. However just make sure that she is teaching you how to sing the songs/Gener that you would like to sing and not just teaching you what she thinks is good singing. Like classical teacher saying you can only sing classical or pop saying you can only sing pop/RnB. Just a thought
References :
It's hard to say. there are a lot of gifted young voices around, and it's certainly gratifying when we meet up with one, and have the opportunity to work with one! But, I've found that over-enthusiasm does just as much harm as under-enthusiasm and lack of praise.
either you are that good, or this person has some ego issues at stake. ( granted, singing teachers are also only human, with as many bumps and warts as anyone else, and the ability to lie does not disappear) I would give this person a crack at it, say a couple of months worth. If you do not feel you have made any progress in that time, then leave. If it becomes obvious before that time, leave that much sooner.
Most singers have gone through the experience of having had at least one bad teacher. No one has ever had just one teacher in the course of their singing career, although many
teachers would love to have it so out of ego. I see no reason to have to lie to a pupil. I find it professionally as well as humanly unethical. But tell that to the politicians!!
Best wishes to you, and keep on singing
References :
opera singer and voice teacher

Some teachers may over-praise your singing ability in order to motivate you. One usually isn't aware of the tone, pitch or other aspects of one's voice quality until she sings at karaoke or hear the comments of judges at a contest. Anyway don't worry too much of this when you start out. After 6 mths of singing, you will know whether you have the talent. So have the passion to pursue your dream which can take you very far. You could model on: Shirly Bassey, Bette Midler,Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera. Take up a little dancing for it helps a lot in a performance.
References :
idk. i'd have to hear you sing in order to tell you. since she doesn't think you're rich or anything, i don't see what reason she would have for lying to you (unless she REALLY needs money, which i'm guessing isn't the case). ask close friends who you know whon't lie to tell you what they think about your voice. and trust your instincts. if you think your voice is good, the pursue it! :)
References :
You know, its kind of annoying to listen to stupid answers like the person who said u must be loaded...dont even listen to him... Well, most coaches tell the truth but some have been known to lie unbearably lol........but in this case it sounds like your coach is kinda selfish lol (shes excited she found the rare voice so she can make lots of money when your first album goes double platinum! lol jk). But you should ask her what she finds that is so unique about your voice.Good Luck :)
References :
Take theatre at the college........improvisation, cold reading, and character development amongst others.......their are professional acting studios of course, but they run a bit more than a course at community college. Depending on where you live you may not find any anyways, so college may be your only option. Also with acting studios, just because they say they teach it doesn't mean that they teach it well. In Los Angeles, there are so many to choose from, you begin to learn which ones are reputable and which are not. The bottom line is in acting you may get turned down dozens of times before you land one. Make sure the role fits you though. If the role calls for athletic and your over weight, you just wasting your time, unless the casting changes their mind. Or it might be that you are not auditioning well..........that is where you need the classes
References :
In your case I don't know. I think it would be VERY unprofessional to lie but anyway.

Not a private coach or anything but, I took a vocal course in my school and OH MY GOD. my teacher is the best LIAR in the world when it comes to critisizing. Everything he'd say is that it's good when CLEARLY IT SUCKS. God. It's so annoying..
References :
Off key, in common speech, can mean two things. One is that you are singing close to the right note, but not quite hitting it. That can be worked on.

Some people can't really even get close because they can't really tell the difference. Musical ability is genetic, to a great extent. If you can't 'carry a tune' at all, you will struggle to make any progress.

Maybe you aren't that hopeless. One thing that helps is to record yourself and go back and listen to what you did.
